ALAN
After years
of hard work and training, Alan was 28 when he took his first job
in practice. After only nine weeks in the new job Alan
was seriously injured whilst on call to a local farm; as a result he was
forced to give up practice.

WENDY
Wendy qualified from Glasgow in
1986. At first, practice was “everything that she expected”. But
then, triggered by the sudden death of her father and a series of cases
that went horribly wrong, she lost her confidence and began to find
practice pressures too much.
She felt guilty because she “ought to
have been able to cope”; and when she did share her problems, the
response from colleagues was far from sympathetic.
Eventually work took over her whole
life and sleep became a scarce commodity. Inevitable physical and mental
collapse ensued.
Recovery has been slow, but with the help of the Fund, Wendy is rebuilding her life step by step – even tackling beginner’s computing courses.
